The Abra Creek Crossing

Cues

During rush hours (7-9am and 5-7pm), locals use abras to commute — join them for an authentic experience but expect fuller boats and faster boarding. The wooden seats get scorching hot in direct sun, so grab a spot under the small canopy if available.

Insider Cue

AED 1 per crossing — pay on the boat. The boats run continuously all day and into the evening with no timetable — just turn up. The best crossing is between the Deira Old Souk and Bur Dubai abra stations at the bottom of the Gold Souk street. Go at sunset when the light on the Creek is golden and the dhows are silhouetted. Combine with the Gold Souk and Spice Souk on the Deira side.

Description

Skip the tourist boats and take a proper wooden abra across the creek for 1 AED—it's the most authentic way to cross from Deira to Bur Dubai, packed with locals and the smell of salt water. The 5-minute ride gives you actual perspective on why this waterway built the city's entire trading empire.
