Majlis Ghorfat Umm-Al Sheif

Insider Tips

Genuinely one of Dubai's most overlooked historic sites — a beautifully preserved 1950s summer retreat used by Sheikh Rashid. Free entry and almost never crowded. Allow 30 to 45 minutes. The wind tower above the majlis is one of the best preserved in the city outside Al Fahidi. Located in Jumeirah which means you can combine it easily with a beach visit or lunch nearby. Best in the morning before the heat builds.

Insider tip

Description

This restored 1950s merchant's house gives you authentic insight into pre-oil Dubai life without the pretension of larger museums—the majlis (sitting room) and wind tower actually show how families stayed cool before AC. It's worth an hour if you're already in Jumeirah, though expect minimal English signage and small rooms that fill quickly, so go early morning.
