Deira Creek
Insider Tips
The historic waterway that was the heart of old Dubai's trading economy. Take an abra (AED 1) across the Creek between Deira and Bur Dubai for the most authentic experience. The Creek is best explored by combining the abra crossing with visits to the Gold Souk, Spice Souk, and the Al Fahidi neighbourhood on either bank. Sunset over the Creek is one of Dubai's most atmospheric views.
Insider tip
Description
The creek's waterfront promenade is genuinely where old Dubai breathes—traditional dhows still dock here, spice merchants work from warehouses, and you'll see actual local life rather than tourist performances. Walk it early morning when the light's golden and the abra boats are busiest, then duck into the souks behind for the real sensory experience (the spice souk especially beats any sanitized mall you'll hit elsewhere).
