Al Qudra Cycle Track

Download the Strava app beforehand — the track has popular segments that serious cyclists compete on, and you'll see your times against others. The 23km loop section near the lakes is perfect if you don't want to tackle the full distance. Parking at the 15km and 35km markers gives access to less crowded starting points.

An 86km dedicated cycling track winding through the desert dunes — one of the best cycling experiences in the UAE. The early morning ride is the one to do: the desert light is extraordinary, temperatures are cool, and gazelles and Arabian oryx are regularly spotted alongside the track. The Last Exit Al Qudra truck stop at the entrance is the perfect start — coffee and a karak before setting off. Bring plenty of water regardless of the time. Bike hire is available at the entrance if you don't have your own. Best October to April.

Skip the gym and pedal 93km through actual desert where you'll spot Arabian gazelles and oryx between perfectly maintained asphalt tracks—locals come here early morning to avoid the heat and the Instagram crowds. It's genuinely peaceful and works for everyone from casual riders to serious cyclists, plus there's no entrance fee or bureaucratic nonsense, just park your car and go.
